Invisalign FAQs

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible and can be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing.

Invisalign works by using a series of custom-made aligners that gradually shift your teeth into their desired position. Each set of aligners is worn for about 1-2 weeks before moving on to the next set in the series.

We may recommend Invisalign if you have mild to moderate alignment issues, such as crowded teeth, gaps, or minor bite problems. Invisalign is a popular choice for patients seeking a more discreet orthodontic treatment.

Invisalign offers several benefits over traditional braces, including the ability to remove the aligners for eating and cleaning, a more discreet appearance, and typically fewer visits to the dentist for adjustments.

Invisalign is suitable for many people, but not all cases can be treated with Invisalign. Severe alignment issues or complex bite problems may require traditional braces or other orthodontic treatments. We will determine if Invisalign is right for you at your consultation.

For the best results, Invisalign aligners should be worn 20-22 hours a day. You should only remove them for eating, drinking (anything other than water), brushing, and flossing.

Not wearing your aligners as prescribed can delay your treatment and may result in your teeth not moving as planned. Consistent wear is crucial for achieving the desired results within the expected timeframe.

You’ll typically need to visit your us every 6-8 weeks to monitor your progress and receive your next sets of aligners. These appointments are usually quick and straightforward.

Invisalign aligners are generally more comfortable than traditional braces, but you may experience some discomfort or pressure when you start wearing a new set of aligners. This is normal and indicates that the aligners are working to move your teeth.

You should remove your Invisalign aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water. Eating with aligners in can cause damage to the aligners and trap food particles against your teeth, leading to decay.

Invisalign aligners should be cleaned daily using a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water. Avoid using toothpaste or hot water, as these can damage the aligners. You can also use specialized cleaning crystals or a denture cleaner.

Some patients experience a slight lisp when they first start wearing Invisalign aligners, but this usually goes away after a few days as you get used to them.

The cost of Invisalign varies depending on the complexity of your case and your geographical location. It is generally comparable to the cost of traditional braces. We will provide an estimate based on your specific treatment plan.

Most dental insurance plans do not offer some coverage for adult orthodontics. It’s important to check with your insurance provider to understand your specific coverage and any provisions on orthodontic coverage.

After completing Invisalign treatment, you will likely need to wear retainers to maintain your new smile and prevent your teeth from shifting back to their original positions. Our dentist and staff will guide you on the retainer schedule.

If you lose or damage an aligner, contact us immediately. We may need to move on to the next set of aligners or have you wear a previous set until a replacement can be made.

Since you remove Invisalign aligners while eating, there are no specific dietary restrictions. However, it’s important to brush your teeth after eating before reinserting the aligners to avoid trapping food particles.

Invisalign can treat mild to moderate overbites, underbites, and other bite issues. However, more severe bite problems may require traditional braces or other orthodontic interventions. Your dentist will assess your bite and recommend the best treatment option.

The duration of Invisalign treatment varies depending on the complexity of your case, but most patients achieve their desired results within 12 to 18 months. We will provide a more accurate timeline based on your specific needs.
